One of my best sales from the challenge is “Bill the Cat.” I bought him for $.99 at the thrift store and sold him for $99.99 out of my store. Recent auctions for this plush have ranged from $30 to $67. You can learn all about him if you type in his name in a Wikepedia search. I think mine sold for higher than average because he is wearing the “For President” ribbon.

The auctions for items purchased during the sixteenth week of the 2008 Garage Sale Challenge ended Sunday evening with 29 of the original 65 items listed selling for a total of $422.69 and a sell-through rate of only 45%. Book sales on Amazon were productive this week with 17 books selling for a total of $492.56. This was due, in part, to the many books I purchased last week and the fact that several of the textbooks have already sold.
The low sell-through rate of only 45% was expected due to the number of pieces of railroad ephemera I had listed. Normally I would have put them directly into my eBay store, but decided to run them all through the auction format one time to see what happened. I was a little surprised at what a few of those that sold brought. One piece, going for $26.00 covered my cost for all of it, making the remainder all profit.
There were no auctions that really stood out this week so we’ll just take a look at how things stand after seventeen weeks.

I spent the past few days pondering all the ebay changes that have been coming our way and as usual, just in time for the holiday selling season, everyone wants to make sure they get their piece of the pie, just wish they would leave some for me! I was angry at first, went in and deleted my “about me” page and thought “enough is enough”! I spent a lot of time on line trying to find another selling venue that might suit my needs, but nothing really reached out and grabbed me. (more…)

Several things came up here last week and one results was the update for week 15 of the Challenge didn’t get posted. I had most of it done last Tuesday, but finishing it kept getting delayed from one day to another, and it never got done. Now the update for week 16 is due too and I find myself no closer to having week 15 done than I was a week ago.
So, to get up-to-date, this is going to be an abridged version of both weeks 15 and 16. About all you will get is the table showing the results for the two weeks along with my expenses so far for week 17.
I do have 65 qualifying items running on eBay this week, but I’m not going to list them all here. They consist of 20 unsold items that I re-listed along with 45 fresh purchases made last week. Anyone interested in what they are can see them by using the link to my auctions in the “Information” section of the right sidebar.

Here is our update for Weeks 14 and 15 of the Challenge. No big deals at all. Rummage sales are not producing much of value. We haven’t had time to check many thrift stores, but we are going to need to do that on a more regular basis plus check out some auction sales in order to get our sales closer to where we would like them.

Good morning
What is the best and cheapest way to ship books internationally? I have many that are too large for the flat rate envelope and in my opinion, they are not good for shipping books anyway. I would appreciate any help on this.

Hi Everyone!
Where on earth does the time go? I can’t believe it’s August already and summer is coming to an end. This challange has really taught me some valuable lessons about trying to get a business started and how life can and does affect it. I won’t make my challange goal at this point, but with the lessons learned, I’m hoping to do better with the way I buy and managing my time. My DSR’s have come up, as has my feedback percentage which I have always worked hard at since starting on ebay years ago. I have numerious physical disabilites which also have affected how often I can get out and about. I have days that I can barely do anything and that was another reason I wanted to try this challange, too push myself and not let them take over my life. We planted a garden this year and with my hubby’s and daughter in laws help, we have managed to can several quarts of veggies and we will have enough that we won’t have to buy this winter. (more…)

The auctions for items purchased during the thirteenth week of the 2008 Garage Sale Challenge ended Sunday evening with 12 of the original 24 items listed selling for a total of $278.74 and a sell-through rate of only 50% for the second week in a row.
As if my sell-through rate wasn’t bad enough, this week my sales on Amazon were higher than my sales on eBay. I don’t remember that ever happening previously.
Twelve books sold on Amazon during the last week for $338.05. The highlight of eBay sales was the early Hohner accordion catalog selling for $54.00 (280251371290).
