Victoria * Friday Night Finds

I’ve been playing catch-up all week, juggling realtors, attorneys, and raccoon infestation specialists from 300 miles away.  My mom’s house has a family of 5 raccoons in the rafters, and they have to be removed before I can sell the house.  The little buggers need to be trapped live and relocated, and every company that does that sort of thing places only ONE trap, so this could take weeks to accomplish … aaack!  I have to make another trip up there next week, which at least means some good junk store shopping and perhaps the San Jose Flea Market as well.

I only got a few of last weekend’s buys listed this week, and by 6 p.m. Friday I had a raging case of cabin fever, so I headed out for some retail therapy at a local Goodwill and Salvation Army.

My best buy of the evening was a Pelouze Heavy Duty 70 lb. Portable Utility (Postal) Scale, which I scored at Salvation Army for a mere $4.74.  I’m not sure how old it is, but it’s accurate and will be priced to sell.  New scales of this type retail for $79 and up.

I took all of my photos right after dinner, so that I can get these items listed on Saturday.  Here’s a run-down of what’s in the photos, and what I paid:

  • Melmac Rooster Plate (I’ve had a thing for roosters lately) – 99 cents
  • Lot of 6 Corelle Indian Summer Plates (4 dinner, 2 salad) – $2.74
  • 4 Gold-Rimmed Dessert Plates, Theordore Haviland Limoges France – $2.74
  • 8 Blue & White Martha Stewart Saucers, made in France – $1.99
  • Totally cool white enamaled teapot with figural cherry trim and coiled handle (and it whistles, too) – $3.79

  • Two old staplers:
  • Stapler # 1 – Chrome Pilot Model 402, circa 1940s – $1.24
  • Stapler # 2 – Swingline Model 05, bronze colored, circa 1940s-1950s – $1.84
  • 2 floral Corelle Cups – $1.24
  • 3 Corning mugs w/ cherries & peaches – $1.74
  • Yosemite souvenir plate – $1.89
  • 2 snack plates, beige band, pen-and-ink watering can w/ flowers – $1.79
  • Wooden decorative plate, hand-carved and hand-painted – $1.99
  • Unopened 1992 Metal tin of Hummel stationary, still in shrink wrap.  Tin is from England, stationary made in U.S. – $2.74
  • 3 shallow pressed glass refrigerator dishes for butter, pickles, etc., circa 1930s – $1.84

Happy hunting to the rest of y’all this weekend.  I’m going to skip the garage sales in favor of getting new listings online to meet my 100 listings per week goal.

  3. @ Diane: Hi, I have that stapler also. Do they really sell?

    Hi Diane,

Like most things, some do and some don’t.

A few hours before I bought these, I was reading a blog that focuses on vintage yard sale & thrift items, and the author mentioned she had purchased a stapler over the weekend, planning to keep it for herself. Then she looked it up on eBay and decided to sell it.

I’ll let you know when they’re listed and sold. I found several sites for stapler collectors, and neither of the ones I bought are rare or in high demand, but you never know …
