LARRY AND KATHY’S GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE

April 30, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hi!  We’re Larry and Kathy.  We have been selling on eBay for three years and have just recently begun selling books on Amazon.  Our eBay seller ID is “oakcrest 1222″.  On Amazon we sell under “oakcrest_enterprises”.

Larry will be hitting the streets tomorrow looking for fresh inventory specifically for the Challenge.  Larry is the procurement manager, warehouse supervisor and shipping clerk.  Kathy is our lister and business manager.  We are a pretty good team of early sixty-somethings in our fortieth year of marriage; and after three years of this internet sales stuff, we still love each other.

We think this challenge is going to be a lot of fun that will hopefully take us from “hobby time” to something more substantial.  Our goal for the challenge is a net profit of $4,000.  We wish all participants the best!

Can’t wait to start the 2008 Garage Sale Challenge!

April 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hi,

I’m Wendy from Northern New Jersey.

I find my items at Estate sales, Church Sales & Garage Sales.

After doing my Taxes, I realized I am spending way too much money on Gadgets to make a Profit on Ebay.

SO , I’ve streamlined my business and set some Goals.

I am going to net a minimum of 4,000 5,000 dollars during this challenge .

My other Goal is to practice keeping the inventory flowing in & out, ( I have 2 busy kids , so sometimes there are distractions to sidetrack me )

I sell on Ebay & Amazon as Kellyww .

Let The Games Begin… Good Luck Everybody!!

April 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

          Hello Everybody

I’m Stephen in Upstate NY and will be “BanksAuctions” during this eBay challenge.

I was reading Gary’s recent post with his goals and it got me thinking!! To be honest I first wanted to set my goal at $15,000.00 but decided on $12,000.00 because I thought that would be easier.

I’ve been at the “bronze” Power Seller level a little longer than 2 years and to be honest, I think I’ve gotten fat, lazy and comfortable. I need to shake things up and get “uncomfortable”!!

Thanks for making me take a second look at things and really wanting to push myself and grow. With your help, this challenge can get me re-energized and jump-start my business.

So with that said, I’d like to adjust my sales goal upwards, but to also have it include three (3) specific parts.

  •  $15,000 revenue in net sales
  •  Build an Amazon.com Income Stream
  •  Reach Silver Power Seller Level

We should consistently strive to grow, and if while reaching for the stars we come up a little short we’ll still be floating around on clouds!

I’d like to remind all the participants this isn’t a competition, but an exercise to help us all become better eBay sellers.

The ONLY person you should feel the need to please or impress is yourself!

Good Luck Everybody!!

RITA’S CHALLANGE ADVENTURES 2008

April 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and getting ready for the big day! I know I am. :)

My goal is to net 3000.00 after all expenses. I live in a small rural area so garage sales and estate auctions will be my primary sources for inventory and on ocassion, thrift stores. I only sell on e-bay under the name of desertsunglass and I also have a e-bay store called Desert Sun Collectibles. I sell mostly vintage glassware and pottery, but do have new and vintage collectible items also. I have been buying and selling on e-bay for almost 8 years just as a hobby. I had just recently decided to try selling more seriously, so the timing of this challange is perfect for me. Woohoo! Thanks Gary!

I wish everyone success in meeting their goals and sharing my challange adventures with all of you, including “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly! LOL (laugh out loud)

Colleen’s 2008 Challenge Goal

April 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hi all!  I’m really excited to be part of the challenge and blog.  Our goal is $5,000.00 profit.  We’ll be obtaining inventory from garage sales, thrifts, estate sales, library sales and possibly pawn shops.  Our venues are Ebay/half.com and Amazon.  You can find us under the user ID beautifulexcess on all three venues.  I’ve been mostly selling books on Amazon and Half but recently started to get back into Ebay auctions to sell the other fun things we find in our travels.  I’m a garage sale and thrift store junkie but now it is time to see just how well I can make my addiction hobby pay off.

Our online business is based out of my basement home office near Seattle Washington.  The garage sale season should be starting up in ernest soon.  My husband helps me with the business but for the post part it is my baby and responsibility.

Looking forward to sharing and seeing how well everyone does.

- Colleen @ beautifulexcess

Ken & Deb’s Goal for the Challange

April 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

Our goal is to generate $5000 in net profit from inventory purchased between May 1 and September 30th at garage sales, auctions, estate sales and thrift shops. We might throw in a flea market or two as well. That is if we can find any surviving ones in our neck of the woods (central upstate New York). We sell on eBay as orangecatcollectibles we don’t sell on amazon at present.

The $5000 goal will be a stretch for us. We’re going to need to find better inventory and list it faster than we’ve been doing. But we think it’s doable and are looking forward to trying. We started selling last July and have learned a lot in the last eight months. We expect learn a lot more through trying to meet this goal for the challenge.

Gary’s Goal For The 2008 Garage Sale Challenge

April 24, 2008 · 5 Comments

I’d thought about increasing this years goal to $12,000 profit, but in the end decided on the figure $15,000. There are two reasons for choosing $15,000.

  • First, by adding Amazon as a sales venue, and by allowing inventory sources other than garage sales, I feel it’s a figure that is achievable with some effort.
  • Second, reaching $15,000 in net profits would insure that my PaperPleasures46 eBay account attained Silver Powerseller status.

So, my goal for this year’s Challenge is:

To generate a net profit of $15,000 from sale on eBay and Amazon, and to achieve Silver Powerseller status for my PaperPleasures46 eBay ID with inventory purchased during the period May 1 to September 30, and sold by October, 5, 2008.

I’ll be using inventory purchased from garage sales, thrift stores, book sales, and auction sales. Anything purchased at antique shops/malls or flea markets will not be included. All qualifying sales will be made on either eBay or Amazon. My seller ID on eBay is paperpleasures46 and on Amazon is Advertiques.

A Change To The 2008 Garage Sale Challenge Rules

April 19, 2008 · 2 Comments

The original intent of the 2008 Garage Sale Challenge was to document sales of items purchased at garage sales and thrift shops, but I’ve received several emails from Auction Rebel readers who wanted to participate but saying there were few, if any, garage sales or thrift shops in their area. These readers asked if other inventory sources could be used.

Since my goal for the Challenge is to show that, contrary to what a lot of people say, selling used merchandise is a viable way to make money on eBay; and, since so many people have expressed interest in other inventory sources, the rules regarding Challenge inventory will be changed.

All inventory purchased from garage sales, thrift shops, estate sales, auctions, used book sales, flea markets, swap meets, antique shops, and pawn shops will be eligible.

How To Register For The 2008 Garage Sale Challenge

April 19, 2008 · 1 Comment

I owe those who want to participate in The 2008 Garage Sale Challenge an apology.

I chose WordPress.com to host this blog because it uses the same blogging script that I already use for The Auction Rebel. My thinking was that there would be a zero learning curve for me and that I would be able to easily answer any questions participants had about posting their updates.

As it turns out, the version of WordPress used here has a few minor differences then the one I already use. One of these difference is in the way I am able to enable participants to be able to post here.

Because of these differences, here is what you will need to do to register and then be able to post your updates here.
